Hunter Douglas PowerView™ Motorization Wins Red Dot Award For Cutting-Edge Design And Functionality
This latest honor for PowerView, which carries with it international acclaim as a top design innovation, comes on the heels of other recent design citations including Interior Design's "Best of Year," Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Art and Design's "Good Design", the Window Covering Manufacturers Association's "Top Design Innovation", and Technology Integrator's "Excite" Award.
In reviewing PowerView Motorization, the Red Dot judges were impressed with the advanced technology behind the system and PowerView's ability to make homes smarter, more energy efficient and distinctively beautiful. With the PowerView App – the heart of the system - consumers can create customized Scenes to operate their window treatments in any combination of positions to fit a desired mood or activity. These scenes can be scheduled to automatically operate the shades at pre-set times to deliver the ideal light, privacy, insulation and ambiance. Other advanced features include linking Scenes to local sunrise and sunset times – precisely calculated by PowerView based on its knowledge of the specific location, and RemoteConnect™ which allows users to operate their home shades from anywhere in the world. PowerView also easily integrates with other sophisticated smart home systems.
From an aesthetic perspective, the judging was further influenced by the attention to detail and high-end design evident in the PowerView Pebble™ - the unique handheld remote available in seven stylish colors. Ergonomically designed to comfortably fit into the palm of the hand, it doubles as a stand-alone objet d'art that beautifully integrates with the surrounding décor when turned face down.
"We're proud of the automated home lifestyle opportunities PowerView opens for consumers and we're thrilled that the Red Dot award committee shared our excitement for the beautiful design and innovative technology of the PowerView system," said Ron Kass, President and CEO at Hunter Douglas. "We think PowerView builds on the Hunter Douglas tradition of creating products which magically combine high end aesthetics together with remarkable functionality."
The Red Dot Awards upholds one of the most rigorous review processes, requiring the actual products to be submitted for authentication and hands on testing and review. A panel of 41 experts from around the world meet in Essen, Germany, for the judging, assessing degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility of each design. According to Dr. Peter Sex, Founder and President of the Red Dot Awards, "Winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions." The Red Dot Awards will be officially presented in July with a gala and "Designers' Night" celebration in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen where all prize-winning products will be displayed.
